PURPOSE.  Provide information to potential applicants for the Masters in Social Work (MSW) Program at the Army Medical Department Center & School (AMEDDC&S).BACKGROUND.  The AMEDDC&S and Fayetteville State University (FSU) developed a partnership in February, 2008, to establish the U.S. Army-Fayetteville State Master of Social Work Program.    The graduate social work program was created as a force multiplier to offset the decrement of licensed clinical social workers available in the active duty Army inventory.  COURSE SCOPE.  The Army-Fayetteville State MSW Program curriculum consists of 61 semester hours for non-Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students or 35 semester hours for students with a BSW.  This program is open to potential students that have a liberal arts focused undergraduate degree from an accredited university.  Upon acceptance, applicants will become commissioned officers in the U.S. Army. Officers attending the Army-Fayetteville State University MSW Program can expect to complete the requirements for the MSW within 14-months for non-Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)) or 9-month (for eligible BSW applicants) accelerated academic program. The academic phase of the Army-FSU MSW Program is followed by a 24-month post-graduate internship to allow graduates to meet independent practitioner licensing requirements for most states.  ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS. This program is open to civilians who desire to become active duty medical service corps (MSC) Army social work officers. COURSE PREREQUISITES. Applicants must have a liberal arts undergraduate degree from an accredited university. Past undergraduate coursework must includes 3 semester hours of humanities, 18 semester hours of social and/or behavioral sciences, and 3 semester hours of human biology. APPLICATION PROCESS.  Anyone  interested in applying for admission to the Army-FSU MSW program are encouraged to call immediately since slots are limited and fill up fast. The complete application for next years class has to submitted before 30 October 2011. The completed packet must include:•        an official undergraduate transcript that demonstrates a minimum 2.5 GPA;  •        official scores of for the Graduate Record Examine (test scores more than five years old at the time of application will not be considered); •        three (3) letters of recommendation from professionals who can attest to the student’s capabilities for performing in a graduate level program; •        a personal statement of no more than five (5) typed, double-spaced pages addressing the student’s interest in pursuing a career in social work,  •        a description of past paid or voluntary social work related experience, future career plans, past social work related community involvement •        and a description of the student’s personal qualities that are consistent with the social work profession; and a completed Fayetteville State University Graduate School Application for Admission.
