Job Description:The Intensive Care/CCU RN manages the nursing care of critically ill patients in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. Two 12 hour shifts per week will be as a staff RN, working bedside on the CCU. Two eight hour shifts per week will be functioning in conjunction with the hospital's clinical education department analyzing critical care nurse competencies, facilitating additional training, skills days, coordinating the CCU leveling program and other duties as assigned.Assist with maintaining low staff turnover through the development and promotion of programs to enhance staff satisfaction.In collaboration with management improve, develop and modify orientation, provide constructive feedback to staff and progress information to managers.Facilitates improvement of clinical practice through providing or facilitating training of new equipment, procedures and treatments.Responsibility for committee attendance and participation as appropriate, reporting updates to manager.Coordinates and/or participates as an instructor in orientation and the BLS program.Demonstrates ability to develop competencies within area of expertise using a variety of competency validation methods appropriate to the topic to best meet the needs of the learner in the required time frame.In collaboration with infectious disease dept., follows established policies and procedures to reduce the risk of staff acquiring or transmitting disease at educational offerings.Documents educational activities in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.Evaluates educational offerings at the appropriate level of evaluation.Assesses learning needs of staff or customer group and systematically plans learning activities to meet those needs.Designs, publicizes and implements educational offering, incorporating adult educational and learning principles into the offerings.BLS, ACLS, PALS instructor certification maintained throughout evaluation period as appropriate.Supports patient safety initiatives by recognizing, reporting and promoting a safe environment.Staff Nursing and Clinical Educator tasks and responsibilities include:Assesses plans and evaluates patient care needs. Carries out physician orders.Administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, cleans wounds, monitors vital signs.Provides respiratory and ventilator management and monitoring for patients.Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well coordinated patient care.Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Instructs and educates patients and families.Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.Provides age and culturally appropriate care.Orients and mentors new staff members.Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.Job Requirements:Current licensure as an RN.Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS.Five years previous ICU nursing experience.Previous educator experience strongly preferred, including creation of education plans, needs analysis, etc.Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.Job Criteria: Start Date: Immediately Position Type: Full-Time Permanent Years of Experience Required: 5 Education Required: Bachelors Overnight Travel: None Vacation Time: Job Benefits: Health/Dental Benefits, Retirement Benefits, Paid Holidays, Vacations, and Sick Leave, Life and/or Disability Insurance, Relocation Assistance, Tuition Reimbursement
