Part-time Caregiver - Direct Support Staff (Santa Monica and Culver City)

Position #1
A young man with developmental disabilities living in Santa Monica is in need of a male caregiver to provide personal assistance in his home and community to enable him to live a full and dignified life. Previous work-related skills, knowledge or experience preferred. Must like to be active, enjoy walking, be a good listener, respectful, and patient. Must be dependable and reliable, and have a reliable source of transportation. Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including assisting with transfers and pushing wheelchairs. Hours are Saturday 6:30pm to 2:30am, and Sunday 5:00pm to 11:00pm.
Position #2
A man with developmental disabilities living in Santa Monica is in need of a caregiver to provide personal assistance in his home and community to enable him to live a full and dignified life. Previous work-related skills, knowledge or experience preferred. Must have a variety of interests and enjoy a variety of activities. Must be dependable and reliable, and have a reliable source of transportation. Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including assisting with transfers and pushing wheelchairs. Hours are Saturday and Sunday 5:00pm to 11:00pm.
Position #3
A man in Culver City needs an IHSS caregiver to assist with personal care and household duties Must be dependable and reliable, and have a reliable source of transportation. Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including assisting with transfers and pushing wheelchairs. Hours are Thursday-Friday-Saturday 5:30pm to 9:30pm
Direct Support Staff provide personal assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities in the individual’s own home or community to enable individuals to live full and dignified lives. Direct Support Staff work specific assigned shifts, typically with one individual at a time. Previous work-related skill, knowledge or experience preferred. Must be a good listener, respectful, patient and open minded. Must be dependable and reliable, and have a reliable source of transportation. Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including assisting individuals with transfers and pushing wheelchairs. Duties include the day-to-day support that people need to participate fully in life at home and in the community. Support may be provided in areas such as grooming and hygiene tasks, mobility, community outings, feeding, meal preparation, housekeeping, grocery shopping, laundry, etc. Hours vary.
Responsibilities:
1.) Teach, assist and support individuals at home and in the community to learn, practice and master skills enhancing personal care and including, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
2.) Assist individuals with household shopping and maintenance as necessary, providing ongoing opportunity for individuals to assume increasing control, responsibility.
3.) Support each individual’s existing relationships and increase their networks of friends and acquaintances, including exploration and expressing of interests for community membership.
4.) Ensure the health and well-being of individuals by accompanying persons on appointments as needed, administering medications (or supporting self-medication) following all instructions given by Primary Care Physician and Community Living Specialist.
5.) Maintain all required certifications such as medication administration, First Aid & CPR.
6.) Participate in on-going in-service training.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in English (reading, writing and communication skills)
An interest and concern for people.
Ability to maintain adequate attendance
Commitment to assisting people with developmental disabilities to participate fully in the life of their community.
Varied interests and personal connections in the local community.
Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer or school history).
Ability to work as part of a team. Positive, constructive.
Ability to pass drug screening clearance and fingerprint clearance.
