65 people within the department and 40 are FTE’sReports to the CNOThe Nursing Director  for the Med/Surg floor called the Surgical Unit asesses, plans, maintains, and evaluates the delivery of patient care; provides for the development and evaluation of nursing unit personnel, maintains the operational aspects of the patient care unit on a 24 hour basis in collaboration with nursing administration.  The Nurse Director is accountable for meeting the Joint Commission Standards of Nursing Practice.The Unit Director must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her department including knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.  The employee must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs.  It is also necessary that the employee be able to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in the State of Virginia.Graduated from accredited School of Nursing; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred.Experience Required/Preferred:Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience, two (2) of which she/he has demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and teaching abilities.Other:1. Demonstrates leadership and management skills.2. Demonstrates skills in written and oral communication.3.
