The PPL models professional nursing practice in the leader, practitioner, and scientist roles facilitating the unit staff understanding of the model and implements unit-level strategies to embed the model in all activities. They contribute to nursing knowledge by conducting or synthesizing research that discovers, examines, and evaluates knowledge, theories, criteria, and creative approaches to improve healthcare practice. The Professional Practice Leader promotes communication of information and advancement of the profession through writing, publishing, and presentations for professional or lay audiences. They function as an expert clinician appropriate to the patient population. This position oversees the orientation program for newly hired employees on the unit, including development, implementation, and revision of the program and designs and implements quality improvement strategies to ensure that performance related to nursing sensitive outcomes meets or exceeds established goals. As the supervisor of the unit-based staff educators, the Professional Practice Leader determines the role duties and assignments of the staff educators and evaluates their performance.The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  An advanced degree is also required, such as an MSN or CNS, with a minimum of 3-5 years clinical hospital-based nursing experience.  Qualified candidates will be able to work independently with self-motivation and creativity, while also functioning effectively in a dynamic team environment; must possess excellent problem solving skills, multi-tasking ability, knowledge of hospital operations and the patient care process.  The successful candidate must also possess excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills.    Professional National Certification in an area of expertise applicable to the specific patient population served or ability to obtain certification within 1-2 years.
