Statewide Licensed Psychiatric Tech (LPT) Positions           JOB DESCRIPTION Licensed Psychiatric Technician: 1. Give a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patients; 2. Conduct daily clinical rounds and monitoring of patients with signs and symptoms of mental illness; 3. Under general supervision, of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Medical Doctor (MD), performs psychiatric nursing procedures such as administering medications and treatments,including hypodermic injections, taking and charting temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration, and all other basic general nursing procedures within the scope of licensure; 4. Work with other disciplines as part of Treatment Team in the development of treatment plans and objectives from assessments in providing an overall treatment program for patients; 5. Assist in the development of group and individual therapy regimens. Act as a provider of group therapy to patients; 6. Providing liaison activities with custody personnel in management of mentally or developmentally disabled patients; 7. Observes patients physical condition and behavior and reports significant changes; 8. Prepares and coordinates clinical appointment dates and times and assist in having patients present at their clinical appointments; 9. Assist in first responder duties such as giving Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid as needed; 10. Follow completely and accurately all documentation procedures 11. Helps to create a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for patients;   Qualifications   A. Valid license as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners; B. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR); C. Minimum of twelve continuous months of experience within the last three years rendering direct patient care in public or private institution. Clinical competencies must be current and validated for the area in which staff will be assigned.     Personal Characteristics: An understanding of the behavior of patients’ emotional stability; patience; tolerance; tact; alertness; neat personal appearance; and hearing and vision required for successful job performance. Physical Characteristics: Possession and maintenance of sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during physically, mentally, and emotionally stressful and emergency situations encountered on the job without endangering the health and well-being of others.
