Labor and Delivery Unit Description:This area is currently experiencing rapid growth with the monthly delivery rate exceeding 250 deliveries. It includes 13 LDR's, 2 triage rooms, 2 bed recovery rooms for Cesarean Sections and other obstetrical related procedures. This area also has the unique feature of doing newborn transition in the mother's labor room, thus decreasing the separation time between mother and newborn to almost zero. If there is any need for separation, it rarely exceeds 30 minutes in the transition nursery. All staff are NRP, AWHONN-ELECTRONIC FETAL MONITORING certified. An educational push is being done to encourage RNC specialty certification, ACLS, and limited ultrasound training. Focus for education in the future will be for high risk OB. Nursing procedures encourage nursing qualifications to perform placement of fetal scalp electrodes, intrauterine pressure catheters, and for nursing anatomy.Job DescriptionThe responsibilities of the LVN/Surgical Technologist will be appointed by the Director and will include but not limited to the following: Perform all duties listed in our Policy and Procedure Manual,  Responsibilities of the RN Circulator and Scrub Personnel as outlined under the responsibilities of the scrub personnel. To work as a member of the surgical team in the O.R. and on the unit, assisting the surgeon(s) during surgical procedures and non-surgical procedures. Must be able to initiate case preparation, anticipate needs of the surgeon, patient and other members of the scrub team. Must be a self motivator with a strong surgical conscience.
