A Full time Physician Assistant -Hospitalist or Observation position available immediately. Experience preferred but willing to invest in highly motivated candidates. The Observation unit is a 14 bed unit that provides care for cardiac, pulmonary, and general medical patients. The Observation unit allows the physician or Licensed Independent Allied Health Practitioner (LAIHP) to observe and treat patients over a 24 hour period. Patients placed in the unit should have a reasonable expectation of discharge to home within 24 hours, or placed into inpatient status. Patients with clear indications for inpatient hospital admission are not to be placed in the Observation unit. The unit provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of episodic, primary, chronic, and acute health problems. Applied knowledge, interaction, and intervention are utilized for those who present to the Observation unit. Physical and psychosocial status is assessed to determine care and/or treatment needs. Individualized education and/or instruction is provided prior to discharge, as well as physician referral, where indicated. Quality of services is monitored and improved through the performance improvement program.In partnership with a medical staff of over 220 physicians representing 34 specialties, our medical center serves a 10-county region in costal South Texas.
