Surgery center in the Medical Center is looking for an Operating Room Registered Nurse Circulator with either Orthopedic or Ophthalmology experience. Center does about 22 surgeries a day. Full time, Monday through Friday generally 6:30am – 3:00pm, no on-call (hours may run later or earlier depending on surgery schedule that day).This RN Circulator will be assisting in primarily either Ortho sports medicine surgeries or Ophthalmology depending on his/her experience, but periodically helping in other specialties. Center specializes in ENT, General Surgery, G.I., GYN, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pain Management, Podiatry, Plastic, and Urology. RN will prepare patients for surgery by providing peri-operative and post-operative instructions. - Administer to the physical and emotional needs of patients and their families. - Understands and interprets physician’s orders, lab values, EKG’s and x-ray reports. - Checks the accuracy of paperwork pre-operatively. - Documents patients’ medical histories, including allergies. - Provides prescribed medications and other pharmaceutical products in accordance with physician’s orders. - Understands and interprets medication administration orders, dosages and side effects. - Specific procedures and practices related to conscious sedation when required, pain management assessment and identification, abuse and neglect, sentinel events and response, variance reporting, response to sentinel event alerts, and participation in root cause analysis. - Ensures that Standard Universal Precautions and the principles of aseptic and sterile technique are used appropriately. – Provides assessment of patient positioning; and assessments of physical, mental, pain and psychosocial health status of the child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. - Assesses and evaluates patient condition peri-operatively and communicates to physician and anesthesia personnel any changes in patient status. - Accurately documents care, positioning, equipment safety measures and supplies provided to the patient. - Our OR Circulator enjoys the following: Variety in cases CE’s available, no calls/weekends/holidays and there is a possible career path to Clinical Coordinator! Experience: Nursing degree from a fully accredited school of nursing; two years experience in Ortho sports medicine or Ophthalmology. Two years experience in the Operating Room (circulating).
